Tale of Two Screw-Ups

In 2003, President George Bush and his Administration concluded that Iraq was “an imminent threat” to the United States. Turned out they were wrong. Result: Iraq War with thousands of US soldiers dead, many wounded. Forget about the countless innocent Iraqis and Coalition soldiers who also paid the ultimate price for this mistake. So, who screwed up? CIA and Ahmad Chalabi. No, really. Who screwed up? George Tenet, it seems. Let’s face it. He was the only one that I know of who was let go. Well, sort of. So, what was done to fix the problem? Homeland Security Department was created.
In 2005, Katrina struck the Gulf Coast. As David Brooks aptly put it in his NYTimes column today, “Katrina was the most anticipated natural disaster in American history, and still government managed to fail at every level.” Result: 400 dead so far. And more than a million have become “refugees” in their own country. So, who screwed up? __________No, really. Who screwed up?__________So, what was done to fix the problem?__________

Want to take a crack at what the three blanks would ultimately end up being? Let’s just say I am not too thrilled at the prospect of these guys getting “fair” answers to these questions this time around either. Guess all we can do is hope for the best, and prepare for the worst.
