CENTERVILLE — Gertie Walker celebrated her birthday Oct. 12 in a traditional way: She had lunch with friends at a restaurant and spent the afternoon reading congratulatory cards and receiving other friends who visited her West Hackberry Street home.
The next day, which was the first day of early voting in the presidential election, Miss Gertie, as her friends know her, kept another tradition: She cast her ballot.
When you are 105, you don’t put off these things.
