Senator Kerry must have said something right yesterday..

I woke up around 7 am and was surprised to see Condoleeza Rice on NBC. Flipped to ABC and Colin Powell was gracing the sets of “Good Morning America”! Well, well, well. Senator Kerry must have touched a nerve by saying the “truth”. Anyway, the Administration is at it again folks. However, this time they’re on the defensive and I am glad that they are. It’s about time they were held accountable.

Here are some comments:

“It is a difficult struggle that we are in right now. There is no question about it. Insurgencies are tough,” Powell said. “But to say that we can’t deal with it, this sort of attitude that we are on the verge of defeat, is absolutely wrong.”

“This is the time to not take counsel of our fears and say everything is falling apart,” Powell added.

Powell Suggests Iraq Critics Are Defeatist, Rattled

Well, what can I say. Let’s see. Who is saying “…we can’t deal with it…” or “…we’re on the verge of defeat…”. What they (even Republicans) are saying is:

• This Administration continues to over-promised and underperformed for their political gains
• This Administration continues to be less truthful about the “reality” in Iraq
• Are the facts laid out about loss of human lives, injuries, frequent beheadings, cost of the war “all” wrong? Nope. Is the National Intelligence Report about the assessment of Iraq given to the President in July incorrect? Nope. And if it is not, why is it not American for concerned citizens to start asking tough questions and raising concerns.

Lest you forget Sir, it has been 18 months since we toppled Saddam! So, please don’t gloss over the current Administration’s failures by saying things like “..insurgencies are tough..” and then attack folks who rightfully disagree with the current Administration’s Iraq policy by falsely accusing them of being “defeatists..rattled”.

As for Condoleeza Rice,

“That is no evidence that the Iraqis are falling into civil war. Quite the opposite. Kurds and Shia and Sunnis are working together to build a new Iraq,” she told NBC’s “Today” show.

“This insurgency has no political program. This is an anarchist insurgency. They simply either want to take Iraq back to the old days of Saddam Hussein or to turn Iraq into the Taliban,” she added.

Well, once again, the National Intelligence Report claims Iraq “can” fall into a full-blown civil war. No one is saying they are already there. As for “…Kurds and Shia and Sunnis are working together to build a new Iraq..”, this is a classic example of this Administration’s rhetoric on Iraq where they choose to highlight the few good things for political gains and hide the “real” truth about Iraq’s progress under United States led Coalition. And if you look at this Administration’s track record, you’ve had nothing but excuses for their mistakes. Meanwhile, American soldiers continue to die. American contractors continue to get beheaded.

I still feel it’s time for heads to roll on this Iraq debacle.
