Playing on the fear factor, Vice President Dick Cheney suggested in a campaign speech there might be another terrorist attack on the United States if John Kerry were in the White House.
The rhetoric continued during the weekend. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., speaking at a Saturday night fund-raiser in DeKalb, Ill., said his opinion is that the al-Qaida terror network could operate better with Kerry in the White House instead of Bush.
What a load of crap. Who gives them the right to play GOD with innocent Iraqi and Afghani lives and the innocent lives of US and Coalition soldiers.
“Spreading the wings of freedom and democracy throughout the Middle East.” Sure. Whatever!.
How can United States guarantee that the Iraqis (with a majority of Shias) would not vote for Muqtada Al Sadr like hardliner as their Prime Minister if and when free and fair Elections are held? Worse, what if the current day Iraqi condition degenerates into a power struggle and civil war where today’s Iraqis no longer want Saddam’s Iraq, but a Kurdistan, Sunnistan and Shiastan? How long will United States stay there and will they ensure that all three seperate entities embrace “Democracy”? What if Sunnistan decides to be run as an Islamic country under Islamic Law? What if the Shiites want the same? Moreover, if that were to happen, who controls the oil fields? Would the Turks ever allow the creation of a Kurdistan? Would that spill into a war between Turkey and Kurds?
More importantly, are these questions really answering the bigger question for Americans - “Is this really War on Terror?”
If a failed State is not acceptable (and I agree) as it would breed more terrorists, who would be held responsible if Iraq ends up being a failed state and a breeding ground for Terrorists? Are you beginning to see why this was always a colossal or, as President Bush likes to say, ‘catastrophic’ mistake!!
The fact is this Administration has played into the hands of Osama Bin Laden and has created more terrorists than anyone cares to count and has sowed the seeds of thousands and thousands more. If we choose to ignore this reality today and do nothing to change this, we’ll all be complicit in making future generations here in United States more vulnerable to 9-11 type incidents. And then, I am afraid, it won’t be just one 9-11!
Violence begets violence. Period!
What a bunch of nonsense bandied about by suave looking war hawks as if they know best. No wonder comedians aptly refer to Iraq War as Mess-O-potamia!
