Segmentation Fault: Core dumped..;-)

I like Linux (or should I say, Fedora)

So, I act as a Systems guy when I am not coding or blogging or reading people’s blogs. Yesterday while doing something on one of the many penguin puppies I have in my lab, I ended up running the ‘uptime’ command and found this:

[asharma@wwwin-asit]~$uptime
 20:27:05  up 130 days,  7:00,  5 users,  load average: 0.03, 0.02, 0.00

130 days! That’s more than 4 months without a restart. And this is a development machine with 13 Tomcat 4 JVM instances, an Apache instance with quite a few virtual hosts getting decent hits on a daily basis.

So, remind me again why we pay folks at ServerMatrix or ServerBeach or the many hosting sites almost 100 bucks a month. It surely cannot be for 24×7x365 supporting of our Linux servers. They don’t have to do ANYTHING! This baby just hums along. Did I hear someone say “Bandwidth Baby, Bandwidth”…
