New Yahoo Messenger BETA. Nice.

Nice. Especially the ‘Maverick Blue’ theme. Has some neat features like “selective-invisibility”, meaning you could be online for everyone except your boss and the “audibles”. Basically, “audibles” are like emoticons-with-avataar-and-sound, but it does not work on my WinXP professional setup .

There aren’t many new features if you use MSN Messenger 6.1, but audibles is definitely worth checking out (when it starts working) and I don’t think MSN Messenger has it.

Nice find! I just downloaded it and it is a big improvement. Haven’t seen any bugs yet, but I’ve had it for about 3.3848 minutes so far, and nobody is up at 3am any more to play with. ;)

Glad to hear your 3.3848 minutes of success. I am sure it’s much longer by now. btw, how were you measuring that..;-)

I have had problems with “Audibles” on my WinXP Professional setup, but on WinXP Home it works like a charm. Go figure.;-)

I just use Trillian, http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/. Of course, I don’t care about all the little features like “audibles”. :)

Audibles… Microsoft’s Three Degrees (http://www.threedegrees.com/) has something similar I think. Anyway I dont know what MS is doing with Three Degrees. Not many know about it.

I am unable to install it on my Windows XP Professional. Is there a workaround or it is not compatible.

Babloo: It sure worked for me. And no, it was a pretty straightforward install. I guess that’s why it’s a BETA release. It’s still pretty flaky..:-)

Gregg: I have a colleague at work who swears by Trillian. Since I am primarily a Yahoo IM user (with MSN Messenger being used occasionally), the value proposition has not yet been there for me to switch.

But then again, don’t be surprised if a few months from now, you hear me singing hosannas about Trillian right here on this blog station :-)

Vazz: I truly have never heard of Three Degrees. Will see if I can find some time to check it out.
