New thunderbird 0.6 is out but…

I really luv the new logo. Good work guys and thanks for the new version.

However, while I have your attention, there is this tiny little issue that I have with Thunderbird. As some of you who’ve read this previous post of mine know, I use Thunderbird as my IMAP email client and newsreader of choice. However, there seems to be this annoying little behavior in Thunderbird that I just can’t seem to get rid of.

I use procmail to do server-side filtering (SSF) and then subscribe to these mail folders using Thunderbird. In order to ensure that upon opening Thunderbird it checks in all the folders (and not just the INBOX) for new messages, I do the following: Enable the checkbox “Check this folder for new messages” by right-clicking on the folder and selecting ‘Properties..’ as shown below:

As expected, when a new email arrives, the folder name (in the explorer view) turns bold with the number of new messages next to it. I go in and read these messages. However, during the next round-trip to the IMAP server, it shows an alert and plays a sound that there are new messages. The folder name is bold again with a red mark next to it (and the supposedly new message count). As soon as I click the folder name, the thing disappears perhaps realizing that there really isin’t any new messages. This happens may be once or twice and then goes away. Anyone have any ideas? Is it because I am checking for new messages a little too often?
