Helps you stay familiar with the happenings in the world of technology and a lot of other interesting things. Things that you barely even knew about, let alone knew that you were actually interested inQuick test:
If you had asked me just a few hours ago, what pilcrows are, let alone purple pilcrows, I probably would have shrugged off and said “I don’t know and I probably don’t care”. Turns out I do (or at least, I might)

Blogs, articles and essays, emailsHow does it help?
At the very least, it hones your writing skills. It also provides a great way for IT professionals to document stuff that they themselves might find extremely useful a few months, years from now. And then there are folks who look at their blog writing sessions as a way to share things they know. I am sure there are plenty of other good reasons why people blog and how it can help their cause.Quick test:
Well, this is a tough one. Hmm, how did writing a few blog entries help me today, professionally speaking? I did an entry this morning on my frustrations with JSTL Taglib URIs and their variations on different versions of Tomcat. I guess it helped me document a finding which can potentially bite me (and others) in the future. It sure isn’t that big a deal, but the fact that couple a dozen people actually chose to read it in java.blogs in the last 6 hours, at least opens up a chance that someone other than myself found it useful enough.
Practice

Writing applications, installing softwares, administering systems or just plain doing your day job !!How does it help?
Well, it’s kinda like my dad used to remind me when I was a kid about the importance of practice in Mathematics: Practice makes a man (or woman) perfectQuick test:

Ok, all this would help, but it sure won’t take you far without a slice of humor thrown in the mix
