The Blog as article trend

I have been following the recent trend by TheServerSide.com and TheServerSide.NET using blog postings as highlighted articles and news items on their main pages.
I am going to name this phenomenon as the “Blog as Article” trend, since someone’s blog entry becomes an article/news item at a well known community website.
I know TSS.com has its opt-in program, but I noticed today that TSS.NET is now more frequently using direct links to blog posts as the actualy content of the news item.
To me it seems that this trend is going to become a more popular way of site soliciting good content, without the hastle of having to go through the heavy editorial process, and possibly not having to pay someone for their written work.

I am not going to claim that I know the ins and outs of article writing, but this would seem like a good symbiotic relationship, in that the blog poster gets readership and name recognition, and the community site gets to choose from a creame-of-the-crop blog base for its content.

My question is this: Are these community sites going to become glorified blog aggregators?

Without going into “i-told-you-so”, I must confess that this is precisely what I have been excited about all this time. With blogging paradigm in full swing coupled with the ease with which content can be “produced” and “consumed”, it’s fair to say that the World-Wide-Web (WWW) is entering has already entered a new phase of it’s evolution.

These are exciting times
