Do we have comedy clubs in India?

Went to see “Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World” yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, the movie brought up a point that I was kinda surprised to hear: Are there any comedy clubs in New Delhi? Are there comedy clubs anywhere in India?
As a kid, I remember watching “Hasya Kavi Sammelan” and getting a really good laugh from those. And ofcourse, it’s not like we have a dearth of jokes in our country, thanks to fictional characters like Santa Singh and Banta Singh. However, I still need to know if we have a concept of comedy clubs where standup comedians entertain crowds on a daily or weekly basis. Any inputs would be much appreciated.

There is a serial running on Star One channel named - The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and that’s really funny..Some of the participents are too good.. I get the video cassette from Indian Video shop here adn watch it.. Worth watching..

The Great Indian Laughter Challenge is really gr8.It is hosted by none other than Shekhar Suman and Navjot Singh Sidhu.There is another program on the same channel ie “The great indian comedy show.” .Then there is the Indian version of Whos Line is it anyway called “Lo Kallo Baat” on SAB TV.

How come u enjoy that movie? It had no storyline, was utterly dry and had a sarcasm on India! The movie was a shit. btw, what makes u think that we require stand-up comedy clubs in India? I think Indians have a much better sense of humor (compared to americans). Have you ever heard americans starting a debate if they should have ‘hasya kavi sammelans’ in the US.

I regularly watch this programme and rather I wait for the Friday to watch this programme. It is really a nice programme. But a little negative aspect of it is that some Pakistani participants are using vulgar and indecent language which is not suitable for family viewing as per the Indian standards. If this point is taken care of, this will be the best programme.
