I tend not to be religious about technology; I’ve been wrong enough times to be unsurprised when I run into a good argument pointing a direction I wasn’t thinking of going. But sometimes I’m sure of something, and right now I’m 100% take-it-to-the-bank bet-my-career sure of this: dynamic languages (what we used to call “scripting languages”) are already playing a large role in Enterprise Software Development; and their role is going to be growing in size, at least for the next little while.

From Ted Leung’s presentation posted on Groovy’s site:

In fact I personally believe that Java’s share of enterprise software will decline, but not in favor of anything from Redmond. I think that dynamic languages (Python and friends), particularly in conjunction with Test-Driven Development, are looking more like winners all the time. They generally are cheaper to program in, run just as fast, and have fewer bugs; what’s not to like?

Amen to that. I can almost see a smug look on Anthony Eden’s face. Personally, I would like to create a MVC-based Web application/cocktail (something like Matt’s AppFuse) which uses Groovy, Spring and Velocity.
